DAYTON, OH - The Temple softball team picked up its first conference victory of the season as the Owls earned a road split at Dayton, winning the first contest 3-2 and falling in the second game 7-0.
In the first game, the Owls (8-9, 1-3) used the big bat of junior Courtney Norene and some timely base running by junior Chante' Pleydle to pick up the much needed road victory. Norene blasted a two-run home run in the first inning, her seventh of the season and 19th of her career, putting her just two home runs shy of the Temple all-time home run record. Then, with the score tied 2-2 in the fifth inning, the speedy Pleydle was able to take second and third base on wild pitches, setting up the the go-ahead sacrifice fly by senior Natalie Wagner. The Owls took a 3-2 lead and never looked back.
Senior Brianna Dairy (4-3) was a force on the mound all day, allowing just two first innings runs for the game. She scattered seven hits while striking out eight.
In the second game, the Cherry and White offense couldn't get going against Flyer pitcher Eva Rappe, who allowed no runs on just four hits for the game. Molly Meyer was 4-for-4 and had three runs in the victory for the Flyers.
Dairy (4-4) took the loss for the Owls, allowing four runs in the first two innings of play. Junior Katie Burdeaux came in to work in relief, allowing three runs in three and one-third innings of work. Senior Teresa Bonavita led the Owl offense in the second game with two hits.
The Owls return to action on Sunday, April 5th when they host conference rival Saint Louis in a doubleheader. Action is slated to begin at noon.
