Women's Varsity Places Third In Petite Final

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's crew team placed third in the Varsity 8 Petite Final and third in the Lightweight 8.at the 26th Annual Murphy Cup Saturday. On the men's side, the Owls' Varsity 8, Junior Varsity 8 and Novice 4 all were victorious.
The Women's Varsity 8, comprised of senior stroke Anne Mikolajewski, junior Laura Altimari (7-seat), sophomore Bailey Chick (6-seat), junior Laura Scullin (5-seat), sophomore Mary Webster (4-seat), junior Mary Peach (3-seat), senior Jess Herrman (2-seat), senior bow Amanda Barr and junior coxswainJill Ploof, placed second in their qualifying heat to Williams College. The Owls' time, however, was not enough to qualify for the grand final and had to compete in the petite final. In that race, Temple beat out Lehigh for third place by three seconds, with Colgate and Fordham finishing one-two.
The Women's Lightweight 8 beat out Penn State for third place with Duquesne winning the race and Lehigh finishing second. The Owls' shell was comprised of senior stroke Laura Austin, senior Katie Hoban (7-seat), senior Danielle Britton (6-seat), sophomore Nicole Wagner (5-seat), Meagan Rudge (4-seat), senior Jacqueline Swan (3-seat), freshman Colleen Bianco (2-seat), freshman bow Sarah Cadman and junior coxswain Maureen McDermitt.
The Women's Varsity 4 and Novice 8 placed third in their respective heats.
The Owls next take to the water on April 5-6 at the San Diego Crew Classic.
