PHILADELPHIA- Senior Nicole Caniglia scored five goals, including three in the first half, to lead the Temple women's lacrosse team (6-3, 3-0 A-10) to a 12-9 victory over Duquesne (3-7, 0-1 A-10) and allow the Owls to stay undefeated in Atlantic 10 play. Classmate Whitney Richards netted two goals in the final three minutes of the contest to hold off a late Duke rally.

Richards added two assists, while Berkley Summerlin chipped in with three goals and two assists. Chelsea Rosiek had a goal and an assist and Hillary Richards had one goal.

Temple jumped out to an early 3-0 lead just five minutes into the contest, thanks to two straight goals by Caniglia. Kathleen McNish got the Dukes on the board at 24:31 but the Owls continued to dominate, scoring two more goals to make it 5-1 with 16:57 remaining. Momentum quickly shifted Duquesne's way, however, and the Dukes rattled off four straight goals in nine minutes to tie the game at five with just under eight minutes to play. McNish dished two assists during that stretch. Summerlin's unassisted tally at 6:34 ended the Cherry and White scoreless drought and started a two goal TU run that gave the Owls a 7-5 advantage at the break.

Whitney Richards found Caniglia just 17 seconds into the second stanza to make it a three-goal game (8-5) but DU's Sarah Cates answered to cut the lead to two goals at 26:28. Caniglia and Summerlin notched back-to-back goals in a two-minute span to give the Owls a four-goal cushion (10-6) at 23:18 but that would be the last home goal for over 20 minutes. Just as they had in the first half, Duquesne mounted a furious comeback attempt to get within just one goal, 10-9, with just over five minutes to play. Whitney Richards was not about to let TU's lead slip away, however, as the senior netted unassisted goals at 3:07 and 1:20 to ensure the 12-9 victory.

Bridget McMullan started in goal for Temple and had two saves, while Jessica Colucci took over in the second half and notched five saves. Duquesne goalkeeper Liz Walker started in goal but Caitlin Carducci took over with 16:41 remaining in the first half and finished off the game with five saves.

Temple next travels to cross-town rival LaSalle on Friday, April 4 at 4 p.m.
