PHILADELPHIA -Senior Ashley Morris was voted the Atlantic 10's Most Improved Player, in a poll conducted by the Conference coaches. This is the second straight season that Temple has taken home the Most Improved Player award, with Lady Comfort garnering the distinction last year. Morris was also named to the A-10's First Team, while Comfort earned her second straight Second Team honor. LaKeisha Eaddy represented Temple on the six-member All-Defensive Team.
Hailing from Philadelphia, Pa., Morris entered her senior season with just one career start, a career scoring average of 3.2 points per game and a career average of 1.67 assists per game. This season, the senior captain started all 30 games for Temple while averaging 15.1 points per game and 4.30 assists per game. She ranks ninth in the A-10 in scoring, has helped the Owls earn the top-seed in the upcoming A-10 Championship and win 12 of their last 13 games. She also leads Temple in assists (129) and three-point shooting, making at least three treys in 12 different games. Morris sank an incredible seven three-pointers in Feb. 6's game against Charlotte, just one shy of the Liacouras Center record. Her 32 points was just six points fewer than the building record.
Comfort garnered Second Team honors for the second straight season. Comfort averaged 9.5 ppg and a team-high 8.4 rpg, while collecting six double-doubles. She also added a team-high 29 blocks and 10 steals to her all-conference performance. It was her standout performance against Duquesne on Feb. 17 that really turned heads. The senior scored 16 points, collected a career-high 18 rebounds and added two blocks to aid in Temple's 74-66 victory.
Eaddy led Temple in steals this season, posting 52. She also had five blocks and 43 defensive rebounds. In her two seasons as an Owl, Eaddy has compiled 94 career steals and is on track to finish in the Top 10 on the Cherry and White's all-time steals list.
Temple earned its fourth #1 seed in the A-10 Championship after grabbing a share of the 2007-08 A-10 regular season title. The Owls (19-11, 12-2 A-10) will share the honor with 15th-ranked George Washington but grabbed the top seed after defeating the Colonials during the regular season. TU received a first round bye and will play the winner of the Richmond/Duquesne game on Saturday, March 8th at 12 p.m. in the Saint Joseph's Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
