East Norristown, PA - For the second consecutive series, the Temple softball team struggled to get anything going at the plate as the Owls were swept by city-rival Saint Joseph's 11-0 and 4-0 in doubleheader action on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior Katie Burdeaux and freshman Amanda Branco each singled in the first contest while junior Courtney Norene and freshman Sam Dungan singled in the second game for the only Cherry and White offense for the day. The bats were held silent in both contests by Saint Joseph's pitcher Dani Gonzales, as she pitched 10 scoreless innings on the day

In both games, the Owls (13-16, 3-9) fell behind early and were never able to dig themselves out of an early hole. In the first game, the Hawks built a 4-0 lead in the first inning as SJU catcher Brooke Darreff blasted a two run home run to help the Hawks (10-17, 6-6) build the early lead. The offense didn't stop there as the Hawks would add seven more runs over the next two innings, eventually winning the game 11-0. The Owls' defense struggled all game long, committing four errors and allowing seven unearned runs

Burdeaux took the loss, allowing only four earned on four hits in an 1.1 innings of work. She was relieved by Branco, who allowed no earned runs on four hits in 2.2 innings of work.

It was more of the same in the second contest, as Gonzales lanced a two-RBI single to center as part of a three-run inning to help the Hawks build an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Hawks would add another run in the second when SJU's Laura Cardone scored on a throwing error by sophomore Krystle Metzler, making the score 4-0. The Cherry and White struggled on the defensive end once again in the second game, committing three errors. The Hawks would hang on for 4-0 victory in the second contest.

Senior Brianna Dairy took the loss for the Owls, allowing four runs on three hits in one inning of work. She was relieved by Branco, who allowed no earned runs in three innings.

The Owls return home this Friday as they will host another city rival in La Salle. Play is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
