Summerlin's Seven Leads Temple Women's Lacrosse Over Villanova, 21-7

PHILADELPHIA- Berkley Summerlin scored a career-high seven goals, including five in the first half, to lead the Temple women's lacrosse team to a 21-7 victory over the Villanova Wildcats on Saturday afternoon. The Owls took a 13-5 lead at the break and never looked back, as the outscored the Wildcats, 8-2, in the second stanza for the largest margin of victory in the Rosen era. The Owls improve to 11-4 on the season, while Villanova falls to 4-11.
Fellow seniors Nicole Caniglia, Hillary Richards and Whitney Richards also performed well on their designated senior day. Caniglia netted four goals, while Hillary Richards dished four assists and added five draw controls and four caused turnovers. Whitney Richards chipped in with two goals and three assists. Sophomores Alison Incarnato had two goals and an assist and Chelsea Rosiek had one goal and one assist. Brittany Hoffman twice found the back of the net, while Ann Stouffer and Nicholle St. Pierre each got their first career goals.
The Wildcats struck first in the contest, netting an unassisted tally just two and a half minutes into the game. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Owls rattled off four straight goals, including three straight from Summerlin, to take a 4-1 lead at 19:14. Taylor Lucy gave `Nova its second goal at 18:34 to make it 4-2 but Temple responded with a two goal run. The Wildcats tried yet again to get something going with a goal at 15:05 but the dominant Owls put together a five goal run to make it 11-3 with just under nine minutes to play. The squads traded goals for the remainder of the half, with an Incarnato goal with just seven seconds left, making it 13-5 at halftime.
Hoffman allowed the Owls to make it 14-5 with a goal just a minute into the second half. Villanova struggled to keep pace with the streaking Owls, who dominated possession and closed out the contest with a five goal run.
Bridget McMullan had one saves in nearly 30 minutes as TU's starting goalie. Jessica Colucci posted two saves in just under 23 minutes of play and rookie Katie Phillips was not tested in her seven minute service. `Nova's Lauren Latchford did not have any saves in 30 minutes, while Maggie Langan earned three saves.
The Owls host #2 Princeton in their final home game of the 2008 season on Wednesday. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
