Rosen Headlines Temple's Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Honorees

PHILADELPHIA -After leading Temple to its league-leading eighth Atlantic 10 regular season title, head women's lacrosse coach Bonnie Rosen was selected as the Atlantic 10's Coach of the Year in just her second season on North Broad Street. Seniors Whitney Richards, Nicole Caniglia and Berkley Summerlin garnered First Team honors, while freshman Jennifer Homka was named to the All-Rookie Team. Summerlin and senior goalie Bridget McMullan earned spots on the All-Academic Team.
This season, Rosen led Temple to a 6-1 conference record and a #2 seed in the upcoming Conference tournament. With the University of Virginia graduate at the helm, the Owls upset #14 Penn State to begin the 2008 season and are currently 11-5 overall. The 11 wins are the most victories since the 2004 season.
Richards is having a breakout senior season, leading the Owls in goals (39), assists (30), groundballs (50) and caused turnovers (33) and is second in draw controls (32). The senior garnered three A-10 Player of the Week awards and leads the conference in caused turnovers per game, while finishing second in points and assists per game. She is also ranked in the top 20 in the nation in six different statistical categories. A four year starter, Richards will graduate ranked in the top five on Temple's career assists, groundballs, caused turnovers and draw controls lists.
Caniglia has been one of the most consistent attackers on the team for the last four seasons. Second on this year's squad in points, she has posted 35 goals and 10 assists. Caniglia had a season-high five goals in a 12-9 win against Duquesne (3/30) and then followed that up with a three goal, three assist performance at LaSalle (4/4).
A two-time member of the A-10's Second Team, this is Summerlin's first appearance on the Conference's First Team. One of the top producers on both the offensive and defensive ends of the ball, Summerlin is ranked third on the team in scoring this season with 34 goals and 17 assists. She is also second in groundballs (31) and caused turnovers (27). Summerlin netted a career-high seven goals in a 21-7 victory over Villanova (4/19). The senior is just as successful off the field, posting a 3.4 GPA as a communications major.
A defender out of Garnet Valley, Pa., Homka has started in all 16 games for the Owls, posting 13 groundballs and seven caused turnovers.
McMullan carries a 3.71 GPA in art, while serving as Temple's starting goalie. She has stopped 64 opponent shots, with a season-high 16 coming in a narrow 10-9 loss at Oregon.
Temple takes on third-seeded Duquesne in the A-10 semifinals on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
