AMBLER, PA -. For the second consecutive game, the Temple softball team was unable to get any runs across the plate as the Owls fell to George Washington 2-0 from the Ambler Sports Complex Saturday afternoon.
On a day that honored the Owls four departing seniors (Rico, Wagner, Dairy, Bonavita), junior Katie Burdeaux stole the show at the plate, continuing her recent hot streak with three hits. Senior Natalie Wagner and junior Courtney Norene also added singles. Despite the five singles, the Owls once again failed to deliver the big extra base hit to bring runs across the plate. The Owls are now 1-17 in games in which they failed hit a home run.
Freshman Amanda Branco (1-4) pitched well in defeat for the Cherry and White (13-20, 3-13), allowing only two earned over seven innings. George Washington's Amanda Gabriel picked up the shut out victory for the Colonials, tossing seven shutout innings while striking out five.
The Colonials (10-25, 6-8) got on the board early when yesterday's hero Katie Terrazas smashed a solo home run to left field in the first inning to give the Colonials an early 1-0 lead. Thanks to the pitching of Branco and Gabriel, the score remained that way until the top of the seventh when GW's Chrysanthi Halkiotis hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to bring home the second run to make it 2-0.
The Owls will close out the home portion of the Atlantic 10 season tomorrow when they host Fordham in double header action beginning at noon. The games will be broadcast via OwlAcess.
