PHILADELPHIA - Junior Dina Senkina was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year and first year mentor Jill Breslin was honored as the A-10 Coach of the Year. The 2008 champion Owls garnered the lion's share of the honors as the league announced its all-conference teams.
Senkina led the Owls to their fourth A-10 title overall, and first since 2003, posting an undefeated record in singles and doubles play at the Championship held April 18-20 at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pa. The Moscow, Russia native owns a 13-5 singles record, and has teamed with first team all-conference honoree sophomore Elyse Steiner for 11 straight doubles wins.
Breslin becomes the first Temple women's tennis coach to earn A-10 Coach of the Year honors since Drew Sorrentino in 1994. The Absecon, N.J. native led the Owls to a 16-4 record in her first season and the program's second berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Joining Senkina and Steiner on the first team all-conference squad is freshman Lucie Pazderova. Sophomores Christine Clermont and Anastasiia Rukaayshykova earned second team all-conference accolades.
The Owls travel to Durham, N.C, next Friday (May 9) where they meet the ninth-ranked Duke Blue Devils in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
