Box Score

Amherst, Mass.- Whitney Richards, Berkley Summerlin and Chelsea Rosiek all had three goals and one assist to lead Temple women's lacrosse to its fifth straight win, a 12-9 victory over UMass, and allowing the Owls to stay undefeated in A-10 play.  Down 7-6 at halftime, TU outscored the Minutewomen 6-2 in the second stanza to earn the win.  The Owls are off to their best start since the 1998 season with an 8-3 overall record and 5-0 mark in Conference play.  UMass drops to 3-9 overall and 1-2 in the A-10.

Nicole Caniglia had two goals, while Brittany Hoffman had one goal and one assist.  Hillary Richards dished two assists.
UMass jumped out to a 2-0 lead just six and a half minutes into the game but the Owls battled right back to tie the game just three minutes later off of goals by Rosiek and Richards.  The Minutewomen's Melynda Zwick engineered a three goal run to give the home team a 5-2 lead with just under 13 minutes to play.  Temple refused to stay quiet for long, going on a 4-1 run to tie the game at six with five minutes remaining.  Summerlin scored back-to-back goals and assisted on one other during that stretch.  Just when it seemed the teams would go into the locker room deadlocked, UMass' Kathleen Typadis found the back of the net with just six seconds left to make it 7-6 in favor of UMass at halftime.

The Owls demonstrated their dominance early in the second half, coming out of the gate with a three-goal run.  Summerlin scored her third tally to begin the run and Caniglia and Hoffman each added one to make it 9-7 at 21:28.  The Minutewomen ended the TU barrage with back-to-back goals at 20:42 and 18:47 to tie the game at nine but that would be as close as UMass could get.  Richards scored two of three goals down the stretch to end the game with the 12-9 result.

Bridget McMullan played 30 minutes as TU's starting goalkeeper and had three saves, while Jessica Colucci had six saves in 30 minutes of action.  UMass goalkeeper Coleen Speth stopped three Owl shots.

Temple next travels to George Washington on Friday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m.
