CHARLOTTE - Behind the return of senior hurler Brianna Dairy, the Temple softball team snapped a season-long 12 game losing skid, topping Charlotte 2-0 in Atlantic 12 action on Friday afternoon.
Dairy, the Owls' top pitcher, missed the past month due to injury and was one of the reasons for the Cherry and White's late season slide. Finally healthy, Dairy pitched a seven inning gem to lead the Owls (14-24, 4-17) to the win over the 49ers (31-26, 11-6). Pitching a complete game, Dairy allowed just four hits and zero extra base hits.
The Owls got on the board right away in the first when junior Katie Burdeaux singled home senior Natalie Wagner to give the Owls any early 1-0 lead.
In the second, the Owls extended the lead when freshman Sam Dungan blasted the second home run of her career, giving the Owls a 2-0 lead they would never surrender. Dungan lead the Owls with two hits, while seven different players hit safely for the Cherry and White.
The Owls will look close out the season with a victory when the two teams meet up again tomorrow at noon.
