PHILADELPHIA - The Temple softball team has announced the signing of Lauren Spoo for the 2009 season. Spoo will join Haley Gilles, Jessica Hirschbuhl, Rachel Knable, Alysee Pujol, Sarah Reynolds, and Sam Schoell as members of the class of 2012.
Spoo, a pitcher hailing from Boynton Beach, FL, posted an impressive 8-0 record and 0.67 ERA while pitching for Park Vista High School. Also a force at the plate, she hit .410 and was named to the All Palm Beach County 1st Team as a utility player in class 6A, the largest school classification in Florida. Spoo has been admitted to Temple as an honors pre-med student and ranked 9th in a class of over 780 students with a 4.0 GPA.
"Laruen will add much-needed depth to our pitching staff but will also be able contribute offensively as well," said Coach Heidi Freitager. "She has had a great deal of success as a pitcher and hitter against some of the top teams in the state of Florida and around the nation. We are very excited to get an athlete of her caliber both on the field and in the classroom."
