PHILADELPHIA - Temple University invites its alumni, staff, students, and friends to its annual Temple Down the Shore events on Friday, July 11 through Sunday, July 13 in various locations around the Jersey shore.

The weekend will offer a variety of fun activities for Jersey shore residents and visitors while building support for Temple University and Temple football. With 140,000 alumni in the Philadelphia and South Jersey region, and over 5,000 former and current Temple athletes in the region, Temple is pleased to offer this weekend at the Jersey shore as the perfect summer gathering place to celebrate Temple for all ages. The weekend of events is co-sponsored by Temple's Owl Club and the Temple University Alumni Association.

"We are very excited for this year's Temple Down the Shore and welcome Temple alumni to come and celebrate with us," said head coach Al Golden.

The weekend has much to offer to all ages and tastes. Young alumni and students are invited to kick off the weekend with a huge Friday night beach bash, starting at 8:00 p.m. at La Costa Lounge, conveniently located on the corner of Landis Avenue and 40th Street in the center of Sea Isle City. For $15, guests will receive unlimited draft beer, wine, appetizers, and live entertainment.

On Saturday afternoon both amateur and experienced golfers will appreciate the luxury of hitting the green at the Jersey Shore's premiere private golf club, the Greate Bay Country Club, situated along the banks of Great Egg Harbor Bay in Somers Point, N.J. The fee of $125 per golfer includes lunch, greens and cart fees, and use of the driving range as well as a golfer's gift bag. The format of the tournament is a four-person scramble, shotgun start.

The biggest event of the weekend, Temple's "Down the Shore" Barbeque on Saturday evening, will feature delicious seafood and summer favorites, including shrimp, scallops, pineapple, corn on the cob and, of course, hamburgers and hot dogs, as well as live music by David Duong, showcasing sounds from the 80s, 90s, classic hits, and contemporary Top 40. The barbeque begins at 5:00 p.m., and is open to the public. Over 200 alumni and friends were in attendance last year, and this year's barbeque promises to be a fun party for the entire family with plenty of opportunities to win fabulous Temple and regional prizes. The cost to attend is $40 per person, $20 for children 6-12 years of age, and free for children ages 5 years and under.

The weekend will end at the "Boardwalk Football Fan Fest" on Sunday at the famous Ocean City Music Pier, where visitors and friends can meet and get autographs from the 2008 Temple football team and head coach Al Golden. Hooter the Owl and the Temple cheerleaders will also be on hand to greet fans and take photos. The "Boardwalk Football Fan Fest" takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This event is FREE to the public.

The weekend for Temple alumni at the Jersey shore began in 2000 as a promotional tour for the football team. The event has since grown to include coaches and athletes from all varsity sports as well as alumni, staff, students, and friends. Last year marked the first officially coined "Temple Down the Shore" weekend event and targeted alumni who live, work or vacation in the area.

"There are about 140,000 alumni who live in the metropolitan Philadelphia region and roughly 29,000 alumni living in the state of New Jersey. We anticipate many alumni will be in the area and what better opportunity to connect with fellow alumni than enjoying a day at the beach with your family." said Deborah Fowlkes, Executive Director of the Temple University Alumni Association and Assistant Vice President of Alumni Relations.

This fall, the Owls will compete in five nationally televised contests and will play five home games at Lincoln Financial Field. The 2008 squad returns everyone from last year except for one starter and features a recruiting class which was ranked No. 1 in the MAC.
