Women's Lacrosse Receives IWLCA Academic Squad Honor

PHILADELPHIA- For the second straight season, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA) has recognized Bridget McMullan, Berkley Summerlin and the Temple women's lacrosse team for their outstanding academic performance during the 2008 season. McMullan and Summerlin were two of 159 student-athletes named to the Honor Roll, while the Owl squad was one of 50 Division I Honor teams that had over a 3.00 grade point average.
This is the third academic award of the season for Summerlin, a communications major who graduated with a 3.48 GPA, who was also voted to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic and the Philadelphia Inquirer All-Academic Teams. McMullan was selected to Temple's President's Honor Roll, as well as the A-10 Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll.
An IWLCA Regional All-American, Summerlin finished second on the team in scoring this season with 44 goals and 19 assists. She was also second in groundballs (41) and caused turnovers (36) and third in draw controls (36). A member of the A-10 All-Tournament Team, Summerlin netted a career-high seven goals in a 21-7 victory over Villanova (4/19). She finished the season ranked 15th in the nation in caused turnovers and graduated third on Temple's career draw control list and fourth on the career caused turnover list.
McMullan graduated with a 3.71 GPA in art, while serving as Temple's starting goalie. She stopped 93 opponent shots this season, with a season-high 16 coming in a narrow 10-9 loss at Oregon.
