Tonight's win is Temple's first season opening win since 2002 when the Owls beat Richmond 34-7 at Franklin Field [August 29, 2002]. It also marked the first season opening victory under head coach Al Golden.
Tonight's win is Temple's first season opening win on the road since 2000 when the Owls beat Navy 17-6 in Annapolis, Md. [Sept. 2, 2000]. It is the second road win under Al Golden [the first was at Akron last season, 24-20, Oct. 13, 2007].
The last time Temple held an opponent to seven points or less came against Florida A & M [38-7 on Sept. 18, 2004].
The last time Temple held an opponent scoreless in the first half was at Buffalo in Al Golden's coaching debut at Buffalo [August 31, 2006]. The halftime score was 0-0.
Freshman WR James Nixon's first touch of the football in his collegiate debut resulted in a nine-yard run for a first down on Temple's second drive of the first quarter.
In his collegiate debut, freshman DE Morkeith Brown had a 17-yard fumble recovery for touchdown on the first play of the second quarter.
R-junior DB Dominique Harris' interception with three seconds remaining in the first half was the sixth of his career.
Sophomore CB Jamal Schulters' career-long 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the third quarter was his first career touchdown.
R-senior C Alex Derenthal has started 36 consecutive games.
Senior WR Bruce Francis has made a reception in 27 consecutive games.
Tonight's game marked the return of starting R-senior QB Adam DiMichele who missed the final five games last season with a broken leg. On the night, DiMichele was 15-of-22 for 159 yards and two touchdowns.
Fourteen of the 21 freshmen who made the trip, including 12 true freshmen, saw action in tonight's game.
For the third consecutive year, Temple opened the season with a non-Saturday contest. Last year the Owls entertained Navy on a Friday evening. In 2006, TU opened at Buffalo on Thursday night.
Tonight's game was the sixth meeting between Temple and Army. The Black Knights hold a 4-2 series advantage.
