Ambler, Pa.- Freshman Niki Conn scored two goals to lead the Temple women's soccer team (1-3-1) to its first victory of the 2008 season, a 3-0 decision over Saint Peter's (1-3-0) on Friday afternoon. Despite a rain-soaked field, the Owls were completely dominant on the offensive end, outshooting the Peahens, 24-6.
Conn wasted no time in getting Temple on the board, scoring a goal just three minutes into the contest. Classmate Tiia Kuokka dribbled down the right-hand wing and sent a ball into the box to a cutting Conn. The Owls had various chances to score throughout most of the first half, with two shots hitting the post and crossbar, but could not seem to find the back of the net.
Senior Katrina Lynch set up Conn's next tally, sending the ball up-field for Conn, who poked the ball past St. Peter's goalkeeper Leigha Ashmen to make it 2-0 at the 55 minute mark. As the rain continued to pour, the Owls continued to fire shots at the goal, narrowly missing each time, until Stephanie Kwiatkowski made it 3-0 just seven minutes later. Carly Metzger sent a long ball toward the goal, which fired off the crossbar and bounced right in front of the cage. Ashmen attempted to jump on the ball but was not quick enough to fend off a sliding Kwiatkowski, who popped the ball into the bottom right-hand corner of the net. St. Peter's continued to fight but could not seem to get the ball past the midfield point.
Ashmen had five saves, while sophomore goalie Kara Williams stopped three St. Peters' scoring attempts.
The Owls return to action on Sunday when they take on Vermont at 1 p.m.
