PHILADELPHIA-Ashley Carr had a team-high 10 kills but it was not enough to overcome a poor team hitting percentage as Bowling Green defeated the Temple volleyball team, 3-0, (20-25, 15-25, 17-25) on Saturday afternoon. The Owls fall to 3-4 going into tonight's match against Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Jackie Morrison dished 28 assists, while Cayleigh Ashman blocked a team-high six BGSU attacks.
The Owls struggled from the opening whistle, posting a .000 hitting percentage in set one. Sets two and three were a bit better, .231 and .296, respectively, but it wasn't enough to offset a .360 BGSU hitting percentage.
The Owls came alive in the day's later match against Wisconsin Green Bay but could not seem to get over the hump, losing 3-2. Yun Yi Zhang had a match-high 21 kills and six blocks and Ashley Carr had 18 kills to pace the Owl attack. Ariel Pierre and Caitlin Loudon were dominant on the defensive end, earning 28 and 24 digs, respectively. Jackie Morrison dished a career high 52 assists.
Temple took set one, 25-22, capitalizing on a poor hitting percentage by Green Bay. Green Bay took set two, 25-15, but the Owls responded with a 25-23 victory to take a 2-1 lead. Wisconsin mounted a comeback in set three (25-22) and rode the momentum to a 16-14 win in set five.
