Rukavyshnykova, Stangl Reach Flight Finals In Singles At Cornell

ITHACA, NY - Junior Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova and sophomore Theresa Stangl each reached their respective flight finals in singles action to highlight Saturday's play at the Cornell Invitational. Both Temple doubles teams also reached the flight finals to be played on Sunday.

"Overall it was a great team effort," Mauro said. "The team showed a lot of unity and great sportsmanship. I was really happy the way we played."

Playing in Flight B, Rukavyshnykova beat Binghamton's Shapiro, 6-2, 6-2, and Cornell's Dumitrescu 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 to advance to tomorrow's finals. She will take on Cornell's Miller to for the Flight B title.

"I was very impressed by the play of Anastasiia," Mauro said. "She played very tough tennis and really represented Temple well."

Stangl defeated Colgate's Marquit, 6-1, 6-3 and Leigh's Reich, 5-7, 7-6, 7-5 to move into the Flight C finals. She will meet Cornell's Seyburn in the finals.

In Flight A doubles, senior Dina Senkina and junior Elyse Steiner advanced to the finals with an 8-4 victory over Cornell's Sanchez and Kent. In Flight B, it was sophomore Lucie Pazderova and Stangl who took an 8-1 over Cornell's Seybrun and Lomis to move into tomorrow's doubles final.

Senkina won her first match on Saturday in Flight A singles action, 6-1, ret. over Cornell's John, but fell to Binghamton's Bates, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 in the semifinals. In Flight B singles, sophomore Josephine Bergmann dropped a 6-4, 6-3 match to Cornell's Kent.

Play concludes at the Cornell Invitational on Sunday.
