Rukavyshnykova Wins Flight Championship At Cornell Invitational

ITHACA, NY - Junior Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova won the Flight B singles championship to lead the Temple women's tennis team at the season-opening Cornell Invitational this weekend. Rukavyshnykova, who went 4-0 on the weekend and droped just one set, defeated Cornell's Shayna Miller, 6-4, 6-2 in the finals.
"It was a great effort by the team," head coach Steve Mauro said. "I'm very happy the way they responded in the first tournament of the year."
Sophomore Theresa Stangl won the Flight C singles championship by defeating Cornell's Leah Seyburn, 6-2, 7-5. She had defeated Lehigh's Reich, 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinal round.
In Flight A doubles action, senior Dina Senkina and junior Elyse Steiner reached the finals before falling to Binghamton's Edelman and Santos, 9-7, in a close match. They won 8-4 over Cornell's Sanchez and Kent in the semis.
Stangl teamed with sophomore Lucie Pazderova to reach the Flight B doubles finals, where they dropped an 8-5 match to Cornell's Miller and Duboc.
In the Flight A consolation final, Pazderova beat Cornell's Chis, 7-5, 6-3, while Christine Clermont captured the Flight C singles consolation bracket, 6-2, 6-0 with a win over Colgate's Brown.
The Owls will remain in Philadelphia this weekend at the Cissie Leary Invitational, hosted by Penn.
