Women's Soccer Opens Atlantic 10 Play With 2-2 Draw at Xavier

CINCINNATI, OH - Junior Carly Metzger and sophomore Sara Scheid each scored for the first time this season and freshman goalkeeper Courtney Douglas recorded a season-high 12 saves as the Owls opened up Atlantic 10 conference play with a 2-2 draw at Xavier on Friday night.
The Owls (2-5-2, 0-0-1) appeared on their way to a key conference road victory following Metzger's goal from 30 yards out in the 55th minute gave the Cherry and White a commanding 2-0 lead. But the Musketeers (1-6-1, 0-0-1) launched a furious comeback behind freshmen Andrea Meyer. She scored in the 71st minute off of a corner kick to cut the Owls' lead to 2-1. Then with time winding down in the game, Meyer struck in the 87th minute to tie the game at 2-2 and force overtime.
In overtime, Cori Gallagher recorded a shot on goal in the 101st minute for the Cherry and White, but neither team was able to find the back of the net after 120 minutes as the game finished in a 2-2 tie.
Scheid opened up the scoring for the Owls when she connected off of a corner from senior Liz Allan in just the fourth minute to give the Owls an early 1-0 lead.
Making her first career start in goal, Douglas was superb was for the Cherry and White, picking up 12 saves while facing 23 shots.
The Owls return to action on Sunday when they host A-10 rival UMass. Play is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
