Pazderova Wins Flight Finals At Cissie Leary

PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore Lucie Pazderova won all three her matches on this weekend to win the White Bracket at the Cissie Leary Invitational, hosted by Penn. Pazderova also combined with sophomore Josephine Bergman to advance to the consolation semifinals before falling.
"Lucie played very well today," head coach Steve Mauro said. "She played a consistent baseline game and was very focused. She did whatever she needed to do to win."
After receiving a first round bye, Pazderova defeated Cornell's Duboc, 7-5, 6-3 and Penn's Schaffer, 6-4, 6-1 to move into tomorrow's final round. She defeated Columbia's Stanziola, 6-3, 6-4 for the flight victory on Sunday.
Junior Elyse Steiner had a strong showing in the Blue Bracket on Saturday. She knocked off the third-seeded Holly Cao of Harvard (6-6, retired) before falling in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-0 to the top-seeded Janet Kim of Yale.
Junior Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova dropped her first match of the season after seven tries with a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Columbia's Okuda.
In doubles play, Steiner and senior Dina Senkina dropped a semifinal match of the Blue Bracket to Yale's top seeded Kim/Clark, 8-1.
Senkina advanced into the consolation semifinals of the Blue Bracket in singles with victories over Murray (Columbia), 6-4, 6-1 before falling to Yale's Clark, 6-0, 6-3. Also in consolation play in the Blue Bracket, Pazerova and Bergmann beat Columbia's Murray and Subda, 8-2, before falling to Yale's Nguyen and Ritz, 8-5.
In Red Bracket consolation doubles, sophomore Theresa Stangl and junior Christine Clermont beat Penn's Wolf and Schaffer, 8-4, before falling to Yale's Rhee/Lederhandler, 8-4.
