PHILADELPHIA-Junior Yun Yi Zhang posted a match-high 21 kills to lead the Temple volleyball team to a 3-0 win (25-18, 25-22, 27-25) over Fordham on Sunday afternoon. The Owls remain defeated in Atlantic 10 play with a 3-0 record and a 9-6 mark overall, while Fordham drops to 10-7, 1-1 in the Conference.
Jackie Morrison dished 32 assists, while Caitlin Loudon had a match-high 13 digs. Defensive specialist Ariel Pierre chipped in with 10 digs.
Temple used a .345 hitting percentage in set one to put away the Rams, who had just nine team kills, 25-18.
Fordham came on strong late in set two but it was not enough to topple Zhang and the Owls’ stellar front row, as the Rams fell, 25-22.
Temple started slow in the third set, allowing the visitors to hold as much as a six point lead. Just when it seemed that the match was going to a fourth set, Zhang took charge and tied the set at 22. Neither team was willing to back down from that point on, resulting in three separate ties before the eventual 27-25 result.
Temple takes a break from conference play when it travels to Philly rival Villanova on Wednesday, October 1 at 7 p.m.
