Final Stats

AMBLER, PA Freshmen Niki Conn netted two goals in less than one minute and the Cherry and White held off a furious Maine comeback to earn a 2-2 tie from Ambler Sports Complex on Friday afternoon.

Playing at home for the first time in 2008, Conn's first two career goals helped the Cherry and White build an early 2-0 lead. At the 18 minute mark, Conn scored from inside the box with assists from seniors Katrina Lynch and Wendy Halina to give the Owls an early 1-0 lead. Then, just :55 seconds later off a cross from sophomore Amanda Vogelman, she connected on a header to make it 2-0.

But the 2-0 lead would not hold up for the Owls, as the Black Bears would strike back just ten minutes later. Sophomore Kelsey Wilson knocked home a header into the far left corner of the net to cut the Cherry and White lead to 2-1.

The Owls would maintain a 2-1 advantage until the 59th minute when Maine's Christine LaBelle scored on a header to even the match at 2-2. Both teams would threaten down the stretch but to no avail as the score remained 2-2 after 90 minutes.

In overtime, the Owls had plenty of chances to convert in both overtimes, recording two corners and three shots on goal, but could not quite seal the deal. The game finished in a 2-2 tie.

Sophomore net minder Kara Williams had five saves in 110 minutes of action.

The Owls are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Maryland to take on the Terrapins. Action is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
