Temple Softball Announces Schedule For 2010 Season

Owls home opener on March 17 against Central Connecticut State
PHILADELPHIA – Temple softball head coach Joe DiPietro has announced the schedule for the 2010 season. The Owls will open up at home against Central Connecticut State on March 17, while their season opener will be against East Tennesee State in the Georgia State Panther Invitational, on February 20.
“We are very excited about our schedule,” commented DiPietro. “We will be playing many teams we have not faced, which brings the unknown. Staring out at the Georgia State Panther Tournament will help us prepare for the 12 games we have in Florida before we get back to campus.”
The Owls will compete in two tournaments in Florida over the course of the first two weeks of March. The 2010 Under Armour Invitational, hosted by the University of South Florida, will pit the Cherry and White against some tough competition from March 5 to the 7. USF will host the 2010 Under Armour Showcase, where TU takes the field March 12 to the 14.
An unrelated doubleheader against Bethune Cookman on March 10 separates the two tournaments.
The Cherry and White open Ambler with a fourteen-game homestand, starting March 17, which includes contests with Central Connecticut State, UMBC, Drexel, and their Atlantic 10 opener against Saint Louis.
“Our conference schedule is difficult this year, being that we travel so much,” said DiPietro. “Our road trips feature games against Charlotte, Dayton, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. Our goal is to win as many conference games as possible to ensure a place in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, and then see what happens. I know my players are as excited about our schedule as I am.”
Home conference match-ups include showdowns with St. Bonaventure, Fordham, George Washington, and city-rival La Salle.
The Atlantic 10 Championship will be played March 11 to the 15, hosted in Amherst, Mass.
