Senior midfielder dishes one, nets game winner
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Temple men's soccer team (6-3-1, 1-0-0 in A-10) opened Atlantic 10 play with a 2-1 win over rival Saint Joseph's (0-9-0, 0-1-0 in A-10), Saturday evening at Finnesey Field. Senior midfielder J.T. Noone fueled the TU scoring attack with a three-point night, assisting on their first goal and notching the eventual game-winner.
The Owls opened the scoring in the 39th minute, when Noone crossed a ball into the box for freshman Billy Kappock, who blasted the ball right post to put TU up 1-0. For Kappock, it was his first collegiate goal, making for Noone's team-leading seventh assist.
It was an absolutely dominant first half for the Cherry and White, out-shooting the Hawks 12-0. TU consistently burried Saint Joseph's in their end, holding a 6-0 advantage in corners.
The Hawks quickly answered out of halftime, with Greg Dusing sending a loose ball home inthe 58th minute to deadlock the game at 1-1.
Noone would again answer the call, scoring unassisted his second goal of the season less than a minute later to put the Owls up for good.
A steady offensive attack made for a mild evening for TU keeper Bret Mollon, posting two saves. The Cherry and White out shot Saint Joseph's 19-6 on the game.
Up next, the Owls travel to battle Massachusetts on October 16 at 3:30 p.m.
