Yun Yi Zhang leads Owls with 17 kills as team records best hitting percentage of the season

PHILADELPHIA – With a season-best hitting percentage of .444, the Temple volleyball team (7-7, 3-2) swept cross-town rival La Salle (3-20, 0-5) by scores of 25-8, 25-17 and 25-17.
Yun Yi Zhang, who leads the nation in kills per set, continued her dominance with a match-high 17 kills while hitting .552. Jackie Morrison led the Owls with 10 digs and made it a double-double with a match-high 29 assists.
In the first set, Temple hit 13 kills with zero errors on 17 attempts for an outstanding hitting percentage of .765. The Owls closed out the set on a 6-0 run that included three kills from Zhang.
Some errors crept in during the second and third sets, allowing the Explorers to stay close through the middle of both, but the Owls pulled away each time. Cayleigh Ashman came up big with four kills in the second set, and Zhang knocked down seven in the third.
The Owls will return home this weekend for two more A-10 matches, starting with a contest vs. Fordham at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16.
