Volleyball Rallies to Defeat Fordham in Five Sets

Four players record double figure kills in Owls’ fourth A-10 victory
PHILADELPHIA – After getting down two sets to zero, the Temple volleyball team rallied for an overtime third set and then the fourth and fifth as well to earn a hard-fought win against visiting Fordham. Four players recorded double figures in kills for the Owls, led by Jess Antosz with a season-high 16 kills.
Temple improves to 8-7 overall and 4-2 in the A-10, while Fordham falls to 8-15 overall and 0-7 in conference play.
After falling behind early in set one, the Owls never recovered as the Rams went on to win decisively, 25-13. The second set was a different story, with 10 ties and four lead changes. The final tie came at 25-25 before a Fordham kill and a Temple error gave the Rams a 2-0 advantage in the match.
An intense third set saw 12 ties, and Fordham had four chances at match point that Temple fought off each time. Finally tied at 27-27, a kill by Antosz was followed by a Fordham attack error as the Owls stayed in the match with a 29-27 win.
Temple held the lead through nearly all of the fourth set, recording 15 kills to Fordham's eight. The Owls once again led throughout set five, out-hitting the Rams .538 to .211.
Yun Yi Zhang recorded 13 kills for Temple, Jasmine Waters knocked down a career-high 12 kills and Cayleigh Ashman tallied 10 kills. Jackie Morrison notched her seventh double-double of the season and third straight with 45 assists and a match and season-high 17 digs.
The Owls will play at home again tomorrow in a 4:00 p.m. match against Rhode Island.
