Volleyball Earns Third Straight Win Against Rhode Island

Four players record double figure kills for Temple for the second-straight match

PHILADELPHIA – Four players tallied double-digit kills for the Temple volleyball team (9-7, 5-2) as the Owls earned a 3-1 win against Rhode Island (6-13, 1-7) by scores of 25-19, 25-11, 25-27 and 25-20.
Jess Antosz led Temple with 14 kills and a season-high nine blocks. Jackie Morrison recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 45 assists and 15 digs, while Chelsea Tupuola tallied a team-high 17 digs. Jovana Radojevic, Jasmine Waters and Yun Yi Zhang each recorded 10 kills for the Owls.
The first set saw five ties, with the final one coming at 16-16 before the Owls closed out with a 9-3 run that included three kills by Antosz, who recorded zero errors in the first two sets and only one in the whole match.
Temple dominated throughout the second set, hitting .600 as a team with 15 kills and zero errors while the Rams struggled on offense, finishing with six kills and eight errors in the set.
The third set was tight throughout with 12 ties, and Temple failed to convert a match point at 25-24. After another error on the Owls, Rhode Island's Caitlyn Welsh served a ball that just barely rolled over the top of the net to give the Rams the set win at 27-25.
In the fourth set, the final tie came at 16-16 before Temple pulled away to take the set and the match. As a team, the Owls recorded a season-high 15 blocks in the match compared to just two for Rhode Island.
Temple will be on the road for two matches next week, starting with a 7:00 p.m. contest at Duquesne on Friday, Oct. 23.
