Owls improve to 3-1 in conference play with 1-0 victory
Ambler, PA - Temple men's soccer (8-4-1, 3-1-0 in A-10) hosted St. Bonaventure (6-6-0, 2-2-0 in A-10) on a brisk fall Friday afternoon at Ambler Sports Complex, and came out victorious 1-0. Senior forward Augustin Coly warmed things up with his 3rd goal of the season early in the second half, leading the Cherry and White to their third conference win.
St. Bonaventure held most of the play in the first half, outshooting the Owl's 8-3. Owl goalkeeper Bret Mollon came up big on a close range shot from Sam Maheu as he dove across the goal mouth, saving an almost certain open net goal. The game was deadlocked 0-0 heading into halftime.
The second half began with a confident and resurgent Temple team that looked like they would leave the game with a victory. At 56:23 freshman midfielder Homero Rodriquez fed a through ball to Coly, who dribbled past a couple of defenders and beat a diving Bonnie goalie far post, giving the Owl's a 1-0 advantage.
However, it took some more great efforts from Mollon in order to preserve the lead. A close range shot from Bonnie forward Sam Maheu was denied by Mollon as well as a bicycle kick from Fabrizio Savarino that nearly tied the game. But it was not meant to be, as the Owl's escaped with a big 1-0 conference win.
St. Bonaventure outshot Temple 20-7 in the contest. Mollon had 6 saves in the game. Coly's goal was his third game winner of the season.
The Cherry and White return home on Sunday October 25 at 2:30 p.m. as they host conference rival Duquesne.
