Men's Soccer Falls To Duquesne On Last Second Goal

DU's Joshua Patterson scored with 17 seconds left to give Duquesne 1-0 victory
Ambler, PA - The Temple men's soccer team (8-5-1, 3-2-1 in A-10) hosted Duquesne (8-5-2, 3-2-1 in A-10) Sunday at the Ambler Sports Complex in a crucial conference game. The Owls came into the game winning seven of eight games and ranking fourth in the conference standings, but encountered a feisty Duquesne team.
Duquesne forward Joshua Patterson scored the lone goal of the contest with 17-seconds remaining, handing the Owls a heartbreaking defeat.
The Cherry and White came out ready to play in the first half, out-shooting the Duke's 8-7. Senior J.T. Noone nearly scored on a free kick in the closing seconds of the first half, with the ball just grazing the fingertips of the Dukes' keeper. Neither team was able to pull away, as the game remained deadlocked 0-0 at the half.
The second half was a different story as Duquesne looked like a team hungry for victory. Owl goalie Bret Mollon continued his excellent play, staving off multiple threatening opportunities. The game appeared to be heading into Temple's third overtime game of the year, but Duquesne had victory in mind.
At 89:43, senior defender Alex Trujillo launched a 40 yard pass to Patterson who slipped past the Owls defense and placed a shot over Mollon into the upper ninety of the net. There was little time remaining for the Owls to mount a comeback, and the game ended in a 1-0 loss for the Owls.
Duquesne out-shot Temple 17-11 in a foul plagued game. TU forward Tyler Witmer had seven shots in the contest.
The Owls hit the road for two games before returning home to the Ambler Sports Complex on November 6th, to face off with conference rival Saint Louis at 2:00 p.m.
