Women's Soccer Topped By #25 Charlotte

Charlotte forward Whitney Weinraub led 49ers attack
Ambler, PA - The Temple women's soccer (5-11-1, 1-8-0 A-10) hosted #25 Charlotte (14-2-1, 8-0-1 A-10)this afternoon at the Ambler Sports Complex. Charlotte forward Whitney Weinraub had a goal and two assists in a 5-0 win. The 49ers jumped out to a 4-0 lead at halftime, which proved to be an insurmountable lead for the hard fighting Owl's.
The Owls played Charlotte evenly during the first portion of the first half. But fifteen minutes into the game 49er's Weinraub dribbled to the endline and slipped a pass to forward Jonna Handra, who vollied a shot from 12 yards out into the back of the net. Three minutes later Whitney Bryant drilled a shot from 25 yards out, which deflected and bounced onto the foot of midfielder Hailey Beam who finished the rebound into the corner of the net, increasing the 49er lead to 2-0.
The Owls fired back, when freshman Kate Yurkovic launched a shot from 25 yards out that was blocked by a Charlotte defender. At 32:29 Weinraub collected her second assist of the game on a goal scored by substitute Kirby Stenard. Temple was looking ahead to halftime, but Charlotte continued to pressure. Minutes before halftime, at 41:20, 49er forward Macky Wingo shot a failed clear attempt past Owl goalkeeper Kara Williams. Temple entered halftime down 4-0, but kept their heads held high.
A much different, inspired Owl team began the second half and played Charlotte evenly. The lone goal of the half came at 68:27, when Charlotte's Wingo passed the ball to Weinraub at the top of the eighteen who was able to beat Temple's new goalie, freshman Gillian Kascuta, near post on a laser shot which concluded the scoring.
Each team had three corner kicks in the contest. Temple keepers combined for 6 saves in the game.
The Cherry and White are home on Sunday October 25th at 12pm as they host Saint Louis, in their final home game of the season. The Owls will honor senior team captain Carly Metzger before the start of the game.
