Coly's early 2nd half goal proves to be the difference maker
Ambler, Pa- The Temple men's soccer team (5-3-1) defeated Sienna (5-4-1) today 2-0, in a non-conference matchup. Both teams came into the game on a winning streak but Temple would prevail thanks to Augustin Coly's game winner just minutes into the second half.
Siena held a slight edge in shots (7-6) to end an evenly played first half. But Temple did not wait long to strike first as senior defender Martin Dell'Arciprete got into the attack for his first point of the season. Dell'Arciprete made a long run, dribbled the ball to the end line, and crossed the ball back to a streaking Coly, who buried the pass into the net for his second goal of the season at 48:24. Later in the half, a couple of questionable offside calls prevented Temple from increasing their lead.
However, JT Noone was not satisfied with a 1-0 victory as he continues to pad the record books. At 78:08 Noone played a brilliant through ball past the Saints defenders and onto the foot of substitute Evan Bransdorfer, who pounded a right footed shot from the left edge of the 18 yard box. Bransdorfer used a combination of speed and skill to punish Siena goalkeeper Phil Chabot, increasing the Owl lead to 2-0.
A 2-0 lead was all the Temple defense would need as Owl goalkeeper Bret Mollon had another great game. Mollon had seven saves in the contest in preserving the shutout. Coly's goal was his second game winner of the season as Siena outshot Temple 16-13. The victory over Siena increases the Owl winning streak to four games, their longest of the season.
The Cherry and White hit the road for the next three games before returning to the Ambler Sports Complex for their conference home opener against Duquesne on Sunday, October 25th at 2:30pm.
