Allicia Yurkovic nets fourth goal of the season in comeback effort
Ambler, PA - The Temple women's soccer (4-8-1, 0-5-0 in A-10) hosted St. Bonaventure (7-6-0, 4-0-0) today at the Ambler Sports Complex. St. Bonaventure came into the contest undefeated in conference play, and left with a 2-1 victory in the closing seconds over the Owls.
The Bonnies came out energized in the first half. Relentless pressure led to a goal at 23:16 into the game when midfielder Nicole Rosso found fellow midfielder Tori Burchett who lofted a high shot 18 yards out into the back of the net. Owl goalkeeper Kara Williams got a hand on the shot but it was just out of her reach as she tipped it off the crossbar and into the net. St. Bonaventure entered halftime with a 7-3 edge in shots.
However, the second half showed a much improved Temple team. At 75:10 Allicia Yurkovic found a pass from Niki Conn and slipped the ball past Bonnie goalie Nicole Markert into the far right post from 10-yards out. With the game deadlocked at 1-1, the Owl's were clearly the better team in the second half. TU continued to pressure as junior midfielder Stephanie Ferretti hit the crossbar minutes after the Yurkovic tally.
Not long after, St. Bonaventure's Janelle Taylor started a counter attack out of the back, playing a ball to forward Dakota Carroll. Carroll then crossed the ball to forward Courtney Bosse who deflected it passed Williams into the far post. The goal at 88:20 gave St. Bonaventure the lead for good and the Owl's another heartbreaking loss.
Yurkovic's goal was her fourth of the year, and the assist was Conn's team leading 15th point.
The Owl's continue conference play on Sunday, October 11 at 1:00 p.m., as they host Duquesne at the Ambler Sports Complex.
