Owls Host Miami on Thursday Night

CLEVELAND  – For the third time this season, Temple freshman RB Bernard Pierce (Ardmore, Pa.) has earned Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for the East division, the MAC announced on Monday.

In Saturday's 27-24 win at Navy, Pierce rushed for 267 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries. Temple's all-time freshman rusher now has 1,033 yards on the season and a school record 11 TDs for a freshman. His 68-yard touchdown run in the second quarter is the Owls' longest run from scrimmage this season.

With his second consecutive 200-yard game Pierce became the first player to record back-to-back 200-yard performances since all-time rusher Paul Palmer did it in 1986, his senior season.

Pierce has now rushed for 1,033 yards and 11 TDs on 164 carries. He is the first Temple player to rush for 1,000 yards since Tanardo Sharps accomplished the feat in 2002.

Additionally, Pierce has earned national ESPN Helmet Stickers honors and College Football Performance Awards this week. He is also a candidate for the AT&T National Player of the week, voted on by fans.

In eight games, Pierce leads all Owls and all MAC players with 1,033 yards and 11 touchdowns on 164 carries. Pierce ranks No. 3 nationally in rushing, averaging 129.13 yards per game. He is also the No. 1 freshman rusher in the country.

The MAC honor is the third of Pierce's collegiate career and the Owls' sixth honor this season.

Temple (6-2, 4-0 MAC) hosts Miami [Ohio] (1-8, 1-4) on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field.
