Owls Travel to Ohio on Friday; Winner Advances to MAC Championship

CLEVELAND – Temple sophomore DT Muhammad Wilkerson (Linden, N.J.) has earned Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the East division, the MAC announced on Monday.

In Temple's 47-13 win over Kent State, Wilkerson had five tackles and a career-high two sacks for 26 yards. Both sacks were for 13 yards in the second half.

A starter in all 11 games, Wilkerson is fourth in team tackles with 50, 9.0 TFL, seven sacks, three break-ups, and two fumble recoveries.

The MAC honor is the first of Wilkerson's career and the Owls' eighth honor this season.

Additionally, junior WR/PR Delano Green (Fredericksburg, Va.) earned National Punt Returner of the Week honors by the College Football Performance Awards for the second consecutive week. He was also named the OwlSports.com Athlete of the Week. Against Kent State, he returned a punt for a touchdown for the second consecutive week. This time, he made a 52-yard TD return. It's the first time in Temple school history a punt returner has scored a touchdown in consecutive games. His two punt returns for TDs tie the school record (Anthony Young, 1982) for PR touchdowns in a season.

Freshman WR/RB Matt Brown (Baltimore, Md.) was named Honorable Mention RB of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards and earned Honorable Mention Helmet Stickers from ESPN. . His 71-yard touchdown run against Kent State was a career-high and the longest run from scrimmage by any Owl this season. Brown added another rushing touchdown in the third quarter, marking his first multiple-touchdown game. Brown also rushed for a career-high 156 yards on 18 carries.

Undefeated Temple (9-2, 7-0 MAC) travels to Ohio (8-3, 6-1 MAC) on Friday, Nov. 27 for a MAC showdown to determine the East Division winner. ESPNU will televise the contest live at 11 a.m. from Peden Stadium. The winner advances to the 2009 MAC Championship against Central Michigan.
