Al Golden Named Finalist for Munger Coach of the Year Award

Owls Travel to Ohio for East Division Title Game
PHILADELPHIA – Temple head coach Al Golden has been named one of three finalists for the 2009 George Munger College Coach of the Year Award, the Robert W. Maxwell Football Club announced.
Golden joins Cincinnati's Brian Kelly and Texas Christian's Gary Patterson as finalists.
In his fourth season at Temple, Golden has guided the Owls to nine consecutive wins and a perfect 7-0 record in Mid-American Conference play. During his tenure, Golden has revamped the football program from top to bottom, on and off the field. In 2006 and 2007, he fielded the youngest teams in the nation.
The winner of the 21st Munger Award will be announced via press release on December 15. The formal awards presentation will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010, at Harrah's Entertainment Complex in Atlantic City, N.J.
Golden is also a candidate for the Paul “Bear” Bryant College Football Coach of the Year Award and the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year.
Temple (9-2, 7-0 MAC) travels to Ohio (8-3, 6-1) on Friday, Nov. 27 for an 11 a.m. contest at Peden Stadium that will determine the MAC East Division champion. ESPNU will televise the game live. The winner will advance to the 2009 Marathon MAC Championship against West Division champion Central Michigan.
