Harris, Joseph & Maneri Earn All-Area Honor

PHILADELPHIA – Three Temple Owls have been named to the 2009 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Football Team, the newspaper announced on Sunday.

Senior DB Dominique Harris (Washington, D.C.), junior DT Elisha Joseph (Hartford, Conn.), and senior TE Steve Maneri (Saddle Brook, N.J.) are among the 24 student-athletes named to the team of players from the 10 Delaware Valley institutions that sponsor football. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Harris received the 2009 Owl Award as Temple's most valuable player. Four-year starter and two-time team captain Harris earned his second All-MAC honor this fall. He has played in every game of his collegiate career with 43 starts. This fall he is third in team tackles with 68. He also has two sacks and a team-best eight break-ups. Harris was a finalist for the 2009 Wuerffel Trophy. He was also named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine first-team Academic All-District Football Team. The recipient of the Athletic Department's 2009 Temple Teammates Community Service Award and the 2008 Captains' Award, Harris earned the monthly Owl Outreach Award for Community Service twice.

A senior safety with a 3.50 grade-point average, Harris received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice last May. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in Liberal Arts.

A three-year starter, Joseph has played defensive tackle in every game this fall. He also plays of the punt and field goal units. The recipient of the Athletic Dept.'s inaugural Enterprise Spirit & Sportsmanship Award in 2009, he was one of 20 true freshmen to see game action and one of 12 true freshmen to earn a starting role in 2007.

Joseph is cited on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll with a 3.31 GPA in criminal justice.

A third team All-MAC honoree, team captain Maneri started all 12 games at tight end. Mostly blocking on the line, he added 11 receptions for 108 yards and a six-yard touchdown catch against Army. The three-year starter earned the team's 2009 John Rienstra Award for excellence in off-season conditioning.

The senior is cited on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll with a 3.20 GPA in communications.

Temple (9-3, 7-1 MAC) faces UCLA (6-6, 2-5 Pac-10) in the EagleBank Bowl on Dec. 29 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. on ESPN.
