Softball Drops Pair at FIU Tournament

MIAMI - The Temple softball team dropped a pair of games on the second day of the FIU Tournament, falling to Florida Gulf Coast 8-1 in the first game and 9-1 to FIU in the second game from Miami.
In the first game, the Owls (1-3) fell behind early and could never recover, falling to Florida Gulf Coast 8-1.
The Eagles (4-0) jumped out in front early, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings, building a 6-0 lead and never looking back.
Freshman Sarah Reynolds took the loss for the Cherry and White (0-1), pitching six innings while striking out four.
Senior Amanda Carver led the way for the Cherry and White with two hits. Senior Courtney Norene added an RBI single in third inning.
In the second game, home-standing FIU broke open a scoreless game in the third inning when Kim Rodriguez - the preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year - belted a three-run home, giving the Panthers a 3-0 after third inning.
In the fourth inning, the Panthers broke the game open, scoring six runs on five hits to take a commanding 9-0 lead after four innings.
Carver lead the way for the Cherry and White for second consecutive game with two hits, including an RBI single. Freshman Christina Sykora added a double and scored a run.
Senior Katie Burdeaux (1-1) took the loss for the Cherry and White, tossing three innings while striking out three. Freshman Lauren Spoo worked four innings in relief.
The Owls wrap up for the FIU Tournament tomorrow when they face Michigan State. Action is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m.
