MIAMI - In the final game from the FIU Tournament in Miami, the Temple softball got seven solid innings from freshman Lauren Spoo, but it was not enough as the Owls fell to Michigan State 2-0.
Spoo (0-2), making just her second collegiate start, allowed just three hits and two earned runs against the Spartans, while striking out three batters.
The Spartans had only three hits on the day, but two in the fourth inning were the difference in the game. Mundo tripled with one out to get the things started for the Spartans. Then, following two consecutive walks by Spoo, Erin Confer knocked in two runs for the Spartans with a single to centerfield.
The Owls had their chances in the game. The Cherry and White stranded runners at second and third in both the first and sixth innings.
Senior Katie Burdeaux lead the way for the Cherry and White with two singles. Senior Nicole Lee and freshman Jess Hirschbuhl also hit safely.
With the defeat, the Owls finish the FIU Tournament with a 1-4 mark.
The Owls return to action on Tuesday, March 3rd, when they make their home debut from the Ambler Sports Complex against Drexel. Action is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
