PHILADELPHIA - Senior Felicia Frazier captured the match-clinching victory at sixth singles to lead Temple to a 4-3 victory over city rival Penn on Saturday at the Levy Pavilion. The Owls have won three straight and six of their last seven to improve to 6-3.
"It was a strong effort from the team today," head coach Steve Mauro said. "It is always nice to beat an established Ivy League program like Penn and we look forward to playing Dartmouth tomorrow."
After dropping the doubles point, Temple won singles matches at the third through sixth positions to drop the Quakers. Frazier beat Jordyn Shaffer, 6-4, 6-3, to earn the team's fourth point and guarantee victory.
Sophomore Lucie Pazderova won a hard-fought three-set match, beating Alexa Ely, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 at third singles while junior Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova beat Jacqueline Wong, 6-3, 6-4.
Junior Christine Clermont rounded out the Owls singles winners with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Vidya Dabir. The match also marked the return of junior first singles player Elyse Steiner, who had missed the previous four matches with an injury. She dropped a tough three-set match to Maria Anisimova, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Penn drops to 1-5 on the season.
The Cherry and White will head north to face Dartmouth, its third match in three days, on Sunday.
