PHILADELPHIA - Junior Christine Clermont was the only Temple women's tennis player to secure a victory in a 6-1 loss to Richmond on Saturday at Penn's Levy Courts. Clermont won a close match, 7-6, 7-6 at fifth singles over Ashlee Vosters to improve to 7-2 this season.
"It was a hard loss but I'm hoping that the team will rise to the challenge and work hard to prepare for our three matches this weekend," head coach Steve Mauro said. "We look forward to seeing Ricmond again at A-10s."
Richmond (4-1) won the doubles point by capturing first and second doubles. At third doubles, TU sophomores Theresa Stangl and Lucie Pazderova won 8-2 over Helen Cunningham and Xenia Schneider.
Junior Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova had a tough match at fourth singles, falling to Schneider 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. It was the only singles match that went three sets.
The Owls (0-2) will look to get on track with three matches this coming weekend at Army. On Friday, the Cherry and White take on Massachusetts, followed by Army on Saturday and St. John's on Sunday.
