Temple Concludes Spring Break Trip With 9-0 Domination Of St. Thomas

MIAMI GARDENS, FL - Temple wrapped up a successful trip to Florida with a 9-0 domination of St. Thomas on Wednesday afternoon in Miami Gardens. The Owls dropped just two games in singles on their way to improving to 9-5 this season.
"The team did a great job bouncing back from a tough loss yesterday," head coach Steve Mauro said. "It was probably our best match on the trip."
The Cherry and White impressed in doubles as well, taking a 3-0 lead into the singles competition. Sophomores Lucie Pazderova and Theresa Stangl won 8-2 at #1 doubles and juniors Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova and Christine Clermont captured a 8-0 win at #2. At #3, junior Elyse Steiner and sophomore Josephine Bergman won 8-1.
Steiner recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Manuela Gil at first singles. The rest of the Temple lineup did not drop a single game, winning each match 6-0, 6-0.
Stangl beat Natalia Ramirez at #2 and Pazderova, who is 7-3 in her last 10 matches, beat Bridget Castillo at #3. Rukavyshnykova won her seventh straight match to improve to 19-4 with a 6-0, retired win at #4. Clermont, who is 8-2 in her last 10, beat Stephanie Pfeffer at #5 and senior Felicia Frazier beat Adriana Montilla at #6.
St. Thomas falls to 3-7.
The Owls return north for three out of four matches against Atlantic 10 opponents beginning with a trip to Duquesne on Friday, March 20.
