Women's Tennis Defeats Duquesne, 6-1

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Temple women's tennis team won for the fourth time in its last five matches with a 6-1 win at Duquesne on Friday. The Owls won the doubles point and took five of six singles matches for the victory to improve to 10-5.
"We really stepped up our game against an improved Duquesne team," head coach Steve Mauro said. "Josephine Bergman played exceptionally well at number six for us."
Senior Elyse Steiner and sophomore Lucie Pazderova won 9-8 at first doubles, while juniors Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova and Christine Clermont won 9-7 at third doubles in a pair of tightly contested matches.
In singles Steiner was the only match to go three sets as the senior beat Zena Williams, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 at #1. Sophomore Theresa Stangl beat Rebecca Poole, 6-1, 7-5 at #3 and Rukavyshnykova continued her stellar play with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Samantha Noble at #4.
Senior Felicia Frazier beat Alexandria Albano, 6-2, 6-0 at #5 and Bergman defeated Tara Majdalani, 7-5, 6-4 at #6.
The Dukes fall to 5-9.
Temple visits UMBC on Wednesday.
