Owls Win Third Straight With 6-1 Win At UMBC

BALTIMORE, MD - The Temple women's tennis team won for the third straight match and for the fifth time in its last six matches with a 6-1 victory at UMBC on Wednesday. The Owls won the doubles point and captured five of six singles maches for the win.
"It was another strong performance by our team," head coach Steve Mauro said. "Everyone played exceptionally well and we look forward to St. Joe's on Friday."
Junior Elyse Steiner and sophomore Lucie Pazderova teamed up for an 8-2 win at #1 doubles and senior Felicia Frazier and junior Christine Clermont had an 8-5 win at #2 to give the Owls a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Steiner was the only match to go three sets, as she had a hard-fought win over Ana Mungo, 7-5, 3-6, 10-6 at #1. Pazderova dispatched Cornelia Carpcea, 6-1, 6-2 at #2 and sophomore Theresa Stangl recorded a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Alice Chen.
At #5, Clermont beat Joy Adewumi, 6-3, 6-3 and sophomore Josephine Bergman had a 7-5, 6-3 win over Emily Mannix. Bergman has now won five straight singles matches and is 9-1 in her last 10.
Temple improves to 11-5, including 9-3 against regional opponents, while UMBC drops to 3-4.
The Owls host Saint Joseph's on Friday at 5 PM at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.
