Women's Tennis Blanks Saint Joseph's, 7-0

PHILADELPHIA - Temple won its fourth straight match with a 7-0 victory over Saint Joseph's on Friday at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center. The victory was the sixth in the last seven matches for the Owls, who improve to 12-5 overall.
"The girls really came out firing," head coach Steve Mauro said. "We're real happy with their effort. Hopefully keep it rolling on Sunday versus George Washington."
The Cherry and White swept the doubles competition to take a 1-0 lead. Junior Elyse Steiner and sophomore Lucie Pazderova won 8-2 at #1, as did juniors Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova and Christine Clermont at #2. Sophomores Lucie Pazderova and Josephine Bergman won 8-0 at #3.
TU did not drop a set in singles to complete the shutout. Steiner won her fifth straight match by beating Jennifer Kedzierski, 6-1, 6-0 at #1. Pazderova improved to 5-2 at #2 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Maggie Mullaney, while Stangl beat Laura Matz, 6-1, 6-2 at #3. She has now won four straight and is 3-0 at #3.
Rukavyshnykova continued her stellar campaign with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Sally Kalani Sainer. She is now 21-4 overall and has won nine straight matches.
Senior Felicia Frazier won 6-1, 6-0 over Krysta Contino at #5, while Clermont beat Katy Borden, 6-0, 6-0 at #6. Clermont is 19-4 overall and 9-1 in her last 10.
SJU falls to 4-9.
Temple will host George Washington on Sunday at 1 PM at the TU Pavilion.
