PHILADELPHIA- The Temple women's lacrosse team (0-8, 0-1 A-10) continued its offensive woes on Friday, falling 15-6, to Saint Joseph's (5-5, 1-0 A-10) on Friday afternoon in the teams Atlantic 10 opener.
Freshman Jacqueline Mercer and senior Brittany Hoffman each scored two goals to lead the Owls, while Melissa Schweitzer and Ann Stouffer each scored one.
SJU got the scoring started early with a goal a minute and a half into the game but Mercer answered two minutes later to tie the game at one. That would be as close as it would be, however, as the Hawks rattled off five straight goals to make it 6-1 at 14:41. Stouffer gave the Owls their second tally at 13:32 but Saint Joseph's answered with six more tallies to take a 12-2 lead at halftime.
Mercer and Hoffman netted back-to-back goals to begin the second stanza but the offense was short-lived, as SJU netted three straight to take a 15-4 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining. The Hawks continued to dominate throughout the rest of the game, walking away with the 15-6 victory.
Jessica Colucci had 11 saves as Temple's starting goalie, while Tess Bishop stopped two shots. Suzy Herlihy had three saves for Saint Joseph's.
Temple next travels to La Salle on Sunday for 12 p.m. contest.
