Owls Beat Barry, 6-3, To Open Spring Break Trip

MIAMI SHORES, FL - The Temple women's tennis team opened its spring break trip with a 6-3 victory over Barry, ranked #15 in Division II, on Monday afternoon in Miami Shores, FL. The Owls have won eight of their last 10 matches after starting the season with two straight defeats.
Sophomores Lucie Pazderova and Theresa Stangl won at #1 doubles by an 8-5 score and junior Elyse Steiner and sophomore Josephine Bergman won 8-3 at #3 to give TU a 2-0 lead going into singles.
Steiner and Stangl both suffered tough defeats at #1 and #2 singles, but Temple won the third through sixth spots for the victory. Steiner fell 6-3, 3-6, 15-13 to Angie Werschel at #1, while Stangl fell 7-5, 6-3 at #2 to Yulia Kashelkina.
Pazderova improved to 7-2 over her last nine matches with a 7-6, 4-6, 10-8 win at #3 over Caroline Wendling. Junior Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova won her fifth straight match to improve to a team-best 17-4 overall with a 6-2, 6-1 win at #4.
Clermont, who has won six straight to improve to 16-3 and 10-2 this spring, won 6-0, 6-0 at #5 and senior Felicia Frazier won 6-4, 6-3 at #6.
Barry falls to 6-3 on the season.
Temple (8-4) will take on Lynn, ranked #4 in Division II, on Tuesday at 2 PM.
