Owls Wrap Up Regular Season With 7-0 Victory At UMass

AMHERST, MA - Temple wrapped up the regular season by winning its seventh straight match with a 7-0 victory at Massachusetts on Friday. The Owls will look to defend their Atlantic 10 Championship at the conference tournament, which begins on Friday in Monroeville, PA.

"We're really proud of the way the team played today," assistant coach Frederika Girsang said. "It was a great way to end the regular season and hopefully we will carry that momentum into the conference tournament.

The Owls (15-5) swept the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. Junior Elyse Steiner and sophomore Lucie Pazderova won 8-4 at #1 and sophomores Theresa Stangl and Josephine Bergman won 8-5 at #2. Juniors Christine Clermont and Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova captured an 8-1 victory at #3.

In singles, Steiner defeated Magdalena Ploch, 6-2, 6-2 at #1 for her eight straight win. Pazderova beat Candynce Boney, 6-1, 6-0 at #2 for her fifth straight victory, while Stangl beat Kaitlyn Carpenter, 6-2, 6-2 at #3 .

At #4, Rukavyshnykova improved to a team-best 24-4 with her 12th straight win. She beat Tanisha Hodgson, 6-0, 6-3.

Clermont defeated Laura Danai at #5, 7-5, 6-4, to improve to 21-5 and senior Felicia Frazier downed Maude Lecluyse, 7-5, 6-2 at #6.

UMass falls to 9-13.
