PHILADELPHIA- The George Washington women's lacrosse team (4-8, 3-0 A-10) used a five goal run to begin the second half to earn a 9-4 win over the Temple Owls (0-10, 0-3 A-10) on Friday afternoon in Philadelphia. TU was down just 4-2 at the break but the Colonials used the run to open up a 9-2 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining.
Brittany Hoffman led the Owls with three goals, while Chelsea Rosiek had one goal and one assist. Alison Incarnato dished one assist on the day.
Mia Breheny opened up the scoring for GW at 21:20 and began a two goal that made it 2-0 at the 18:12 mark. After battling through most of the first half without a goal, Hoffman converted a free position attempt at 9:42 to make it a one goal differential (2-1). The differential wouldn't hold for long, however, as the Colonials rattled off two goals to make it 4-1 with just over four minutes remaining. Rosiek made it a two goal game with just 13 seconds remaining in the stanza after slipping one past GW goalkeeper Liz Hoffman.
The Colonials began the second half with a five goal run to make it 9-2 with 10:17 left. Temple refused to quit, however, and continued to push down the field. Hoffman scored back-to-back goals in the final seven minutes of the game but the Owls could not produce five more goals and fell, 9-4.
Jessica Colucci had 12 saves, while GW's Hoffman had five.
The Colonials were led by Katherine Sampson with three goals and Sarah Phillips with two goals and three assists.
Temple continues its A-10 homestand on Sunday, hosting the Richmond Spiders at 1 p.m.
