WASHINGTON -It's been a tough luck season for the Temple softball team so far, but today's game may have been the toughest luck of all.

After holding George Washington scoreless for 13 innings, the Colonials rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 14th-inning, rallying for an epic 2-1 victory over the Owls on Friday afternoon from Washington D.C.

In one of the longest games in Temple softball history, the two teams played scoreless softball all the way to the 14th inning.

In the top of the 14th, the Owls finally broke through for the first run of the game when a single from senior Amanda Carver scored pinch-runner Michelle Lerner, giving the Cherry and White the hard earned 1-0 lead.

But after holding the Colonials scoreless for 13th innings, the Owls just couldn't seal the deal. With runners on second and third and two outs, GW's Michelle Van Kirk singled off of starter Katie Burdeaux, scoring two runs and winning the game for the Colonials.

Burdeaux (1-10) pitched masterfully for the Owls in the loss, tossing 13 scoreless innings to start the game and allowing just five hits for the entire game. Burdeaux also added 13 strikeouts and a career high.

Despite the close loss, it wasn't as if the Owls didn't have their chances to break the game open. The Owls recorded a season-high 14 hits against the Colonials, but could not drive more than one of those runners home, leaving 13 runners on base.

Carver, freshman Jess Hirschbuhl, senior Courtney Norene, Burdeaux and junior Krystle Metzler all had two hits apiece for the Owls.

Amanda Gabriel picked up the win for the Colonials, allowing just one earned run over 14 innings.

The two teams are back it tomorrow at noon from Washington.
